In recent years, the city has become nationally known for its excellent metalworking technology possessed by small and medium-sized businesses, and at the same time, 70% of the working population is employed in the metalworking industry.

The History of Tsubame, a City of Metal Industry

Many hundreds of years ago, Tsubame City was in a difficult situation for rice farming due to frequently flooding nearby rivers. Farmers in need were encouraged to make Japanese traditional nails as a side job, and merchants in the neighboring city of Sanjo expanded their sales routes to Tokyo, making Tsubame a major production center of Japanese traditional nails. The influence of Civilization and Enlightenment began to gradually appear, however, and various daily necessities used in the home were replaced by imported goods. Tsubame received a new order from Tokyo. Tsubame City received a new order from Tokyo to produce metal tableware for banquets. As a result, many craftsmen turned to spoon production, creating the foundation for the mass production and export industry that continues until today. Since then, Tsubame City has overcome the vicissitudes of many eras, processing a variety of materials and producing products based on its outstanding technology. Today, Tsubame City has become a Mecca for the metalworking industry worldwide.
